October 2
This morning we were up bright and early to get a start on the day. We had to leave the hotel by 7:00 AM because the traffic is so bad in Istanbul. We had to catch the ferry to the Asia side of Istanbul so we could cut off some driving time.
After a very long bus ride we stopped at Nicaea where the 300 Christian bishops met at the Nicaen Council in 325 AD. They were wrestling with the question of how Jesus could be human and divine at the same time. The result was the Nicaen Creed we use until today..
This is our chariot for the time we have in Turkey
This is a shot of the interior of the remains of the church (which is now an active mosque).
The base of the original altar at Nicaea. This building dates from 325 AD. I wonder how many buildings being erected today will be around in 1500 years.
I think we all got a few winks on the bus.
Our last stop for the day was Thyateira. See Revelation chapter 2
After dinner we met at the Pub and rehashed the day.
